Abstract

The emotionally focused couple therapy model has greatly influenced how many mental health professionals view couples counseling since its development by Johnson and Greenberg in the 1980s. This model being one of the most researched models of couple therapy, has shown to be an effective intervention for couples experiencing marital distress.  This paper will examine the author’s understanding of Johnson and Greenberg’s emotionally-focused therapy concepts as well as the strengths and weaknesses of this approach. This paper will also address how this model fits within my current counseling framework
